iv.Monkey survival rules.

Lopburi macaques are clever, fast, and entirely unafraid of humans. Treat them like seagulls with hands. Six rules, in order of importance.

  1. Nothing loose. No sunglasses on heads, no caps, no earrings, no necklaces, no plastic bags. They go for whatever shines or rustles.
  2. No food in pockets. Not a granola bar, not a sweet wrapper from yesterday. They smell it.
  3. Bag in front, zipped. If Cagla has a shoulder bag, swing it to the chest. They can open zips, so a small carabiner over the zip pulls is the move.
  4. Don't smile, don't stare. Showing teeth is a threat in macaque. Soft eyes, calm walk. If one climbs you, stay still and let it figure out you're empty.
  5. If bitten or scratched, hospital same day. Lopburi Hospital does post exposure rabies prophylaxis. Wash the wound first with soap for 15 minutes.
  6. Don't feed them. Illegal, fineable, and trains the next visitor's nightmare.
